Russell W. Lane, age 70, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Russell Wayne Lane was born September 26, 1940 in Homer, Nebraska the son of George Tweedy and Mable Larilda (Kester) Lane. The family moved to Red Oak when Russell was a child. He attended school in Red Oak and later served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Shirley Gibson in 1981 and to this union a son was born: Jesse. Russell worked in carpentry and owned a tree service company for many years. He lived in Colorado for a short time but spent most of his time in the Red Oak and southwest Iowa area. Most recently he worked for Red Oak Greenhouse. Russell was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed western movies and books and dancing. Russell was a former member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers: George and Bob Lane. Survivors include his son: Jesse Lane and wife Lindsay of Red Oak, Iowa; step-children: Carie Hunt and husband Clinton of Red Oak, Iowa and Roger Gibson of Red Oak, Iowa; several step-grandchildren; special friends: Alton and Shirley Snyder of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
