Walter A. Johnson, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 06, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Walter Axel Johnson was born July 2, 1926 in Hawthorne, Iowa the son of Axel and Lilly (Roberts) Johnson. He attended school in Red Oak and later moved to California where he was united in marriage to Rozella Wright in 1946. A daughter was born to this union: Connie. Walter served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and upon his return to California he sold cars and motorcycles for many years until moving back to Red Oak, Iowa in 1977. He was a long time Superintendent for the City of Red Oak’s Water Department.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Ernest Johnson. Survivors include his daughter: Connie Johnson of Santa Clara, California; a niece: Barbara Bellmer and husband Wayne of Fremont, California; and other relatives and friends.

There will be no services at this time and burial of the cremated remains will take place in the Essex, Iowa Cemetery at a later date.
