Harold Edward Olsen ,88, of Council Bluffs, IA, formerly of Red Oak, IA died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at The Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.

He was preceded in death by Father Rudolph Knute Olsen and Mother, Estella Margaret Stanley, also Brother Stanley R. Olsen.

He graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1940.

Harold served in the US Navy Submarine Division during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Tangier Shrine, Scottish Rite. Harold belonged to St. John Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Mayo Clinic Legacy in Rochester MN.

He owned Olsen Welding and Design, Inc. formerly Unity Welding in Red Oak, IA. In 1978, he fabricated the corn stalk sculpture at the I-80 Shelby, IA exit.

Survived by his wife Carol L. Olsen, daughters: Cecilia Olsen, Martha Milburn and husband Rod, and Michelee Vallee and husband Art ; step daughters: Lori Howell and husband Terry, Julie Driver and husband Randy, and Melinda Probst and husband Brian; grandchildren: Michele, Jeff & Lou Anne , Steve, Jennifer& Kenny, Tyler & Teresa, Mitchell, Rachel & Ty, Mary, and Matthew; and Great Grandchildren; Alyssa, Blake, Paige, Keaton and Grace.

Harold’s wish was for his body to be given to the Anatomical Gifts Program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN., arranged by Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, IA.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at Tish’s Restaurant, 1207 S. 35th St. Council Bluffs, Iowa, Saturday, Aug 21, 2010 at 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a time for prayer and reflections at 4:00 PM.
