Phyllis J. Alm, age 85, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Phyllis Jean Nelson was born March 9, 1925 at home in Essex, Iowa the daughter of Axel A. and Helga (Johnson) Nelson. She attended Centennial Country School and graduated from Essex High School in 1942. She then attended Capitol Beauty School in Omaha, Nebraska. She married the love of her life, Carl V. Alm on February 8, 1948 in Omaha. They farmed for one year west of Red Oak, Iowa and then moved one mile west of Elliott, Iowa where they still reside. Phyllis was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church where she was on several committees and was a member of several other organizations and neighborhood clubs. Phyllis and Carl spent many happy days traveling, especially to Sweden, Norway, and Hawaii. They liked spending time at their lake home and spent many winters in Arizona with their dear friends, Paul and Mildred Gammell. They both loved to dance. Phyllis was also an avid lover of Boxer dogs which they had most of their married life.

Preceding Phyllis in death were her parents; brothers: Linne Nelson, Dr. Clifford Nelson, and Bruce Nelson; and sisters: June Sheppard, Eleanor Bertram, and Lorraine Nelson. Survivors include her husband of 62 years: Carl Alm of Elliott; daughter: Carla Mueller and husband John of Elliott, Iowa; grandchildren: Bradley Mueller and fiancÚ Melissa Hegg of Lake Ozark, Missouri and Allison Mueller of Omaha, Nebraska; sister: Juanita DeVoss of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 21, 2010 at the Elliott United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott United Methodist Church or the Montgomery County Animal Rescue.
