Hazel L. Chatterton, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Hazel Lucille Chatterton was born January 16, 1919 in Cass County, Iowa near Grant. She grew up in Adams County on a farm and attended country school. Hazel was united in marriage to Edward Chatterton on February 10, 1940 in Corning, Iowa. They lived in Shenandoah, Des Moines, and Corning, Iowa before moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1958. While living in Corning, Hazel did housework for several different families. In Red Oak Hazel did in home work for people and for a short time worked at the Nursery in Shenandoah. Most recently Hazel washed dishes at the Red Oak Senior Citizens Center retiring in 2000. She was an active member of the Red Oak Senior Citizens and the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Hazel enjoyed playing Bingo, playing cards, putting together puzzles, and doing word search puzzles.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Edward Chatterton on January 4, 1990; and brother: Harvey Hoyt. Survivors include her children: Donald Chatterton and wife Sharon of Omaha, Nebraska; Sharon Kay Chatterton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Edward “Gene” Chatterton and wife Kathy of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Amy Murren and husband Chad of Villisca, Iowa; Matthew Fleagle of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Michael Edward Chatterton and wife Marla of Denver, Colorado; Andrew Chatterton and wife Anita of Wichita, Kansas; and Caragh Chatterton of Omaha, Nebraska: great grandchildren: Katie and Newt Murren; and Ella, Hank, Cameron, and Ariana Chatterton; brother: Harry Hoyt and wife Marie of Silom Springs, Arkansas; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Relay for Life.
