Wallace W. “Wally” Johnson, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Wallace Wilford Johnson was born May 13, 1932 in Stromsburg, Nebraska the son of Clarence and Hilma Johnson. As a young boy the family moved to Essex, Iowa where Wally graduated in the class of 1950. He started working for the Union Carbide in Red Oak until he was drafted and served in the United States Army from September of 1952 until September of 1954. Upon his return home from service during the Korean War, he again worked for Union Carbide Battery Company. He was united in marriage to Barbara Dado on April 14, 1956 at the First Covenant Church in Red Oak. They have lived all their married life near Red Oak, Iowa. Wally retired in 1992 from Eveready Battery after 42 ½ years of service. He then enjoyed doing carpentry work and odd jobs. His hobbies included bowling, fishing, playing cards, shooting pool, and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister: Ruth Marie Alm; and great grandson: Daniel Williams. Survivors include his wife: Barbara Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Tony Johnson and wife Delores of Red Oak, Iowa and Jay Johnson and wife Shelia of Villisca, Iowa; daughters: Debra Williams and husband Curtis of Shenandoah, Iowa and Mary Bonham and husband Mark of Overland Park, Kansas; 6 grandchildren: Jennifer Frazee and husband Curt of Red Oak, Iowa; Nathan Johnson and wife Jodi of Red Oak, Iowa; Chad Williams and wife Marla of Trent, South Dakota; Stacey Weatherman and Bill Rightsell of Camdenton, Missouri; Jill Bonham of Overland Park, Kansas; and Cole Bonham and wife Megan of Olathe, Kansas; 10 great grandchildren: Dallas, Damian, Kailynn, Cylis, Audrina, Alexis, Alice, Elizabeth, Annabelle, and Olivia; sisters: Betty Johnson of Essex, Iowa and Anna Mae Martin and husband Bob of Rockwell City, Iowa; brother-in-law: Gustaf Alm of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, November 30, 2009 at the First Covenant Church with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Covenant Church.
