Yvonne Kay Woods, age 69, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha after an extended illness. Yvonne “Kay” Woods was born November 8, 1939 in Columbus, Nebraska, the daughter of James P. and Nina (Roberts) Mitera. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School before attending X-Ray Technology School at the University of Colorado Medical School in Denver, Colorado. She returned to Columbus, Nebraska where she married Max Woerth. She worked as an executive secretary at the First National Bank; Columbus Chamber of Commerce; and the Elks Country Club. They then moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in 1971, where Kay was employed by Job Service of Iowa and was transferred to Red Oak in 1973 to open the first full time Job Service office in the city of Red Oak. She was united in marriage to Earl Woods that same year. The couple lived and worked in the Red Oak area until 1995 when they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They returned to Red Oak in 2000. She worked in various office positions both in Red Oak and Las Vegas. She enjoyed all aspects of nature especially bird watching. Kay was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her parents and step-daughter: Johanna Lynn Woods. Survivors include her husband: Earl Woods of Red Oak; children: Mark Mitera of Red Oak, Iowa and Pamela Woerth of Elliott, Iowa; step-son: Terry Woods and wife K. Ann of Union, South Carolina; 2 grandchildren: Tyce Watts of Red Oak and Aayla Woerth of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 3 step-grandchildren: Bradley Woods, Nathaniel Woods, and Brandy Kurtz all of Union, South Carolina; 2 step-great grandchildren; brother: James C. Mitera of Hastings, Nebraska; sisters: Sandra Williams and Barbara Woerth and husband John of Columbus, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Interment of ashes will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
