Jane Lewis, age 77, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Friday, December 7, 2001 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center in Red Oak after an extended illness. Jane Hedwig Lewis was born June 9, 1924 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Erick and Alma (Swanson) Nelson. She was raised in the Elliott area and graduated from the Griswold High School in 1942. She then attended Secretarial School and later was united in marriage to George Lewis on November 3, 1944. They were lifelong residents of Elliott, Iowa. When Jane was in her forties she went back to school to become an LPN and worked for Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the O.N.O. Club.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: George Lewis in 1990; son: Robert Lewis in 2000; and a brother: Dale Nelson.

Survivors include her children: Pat Light of Lincoln, Nebraska; Bill Lewis and his wife Dee of Bellbrook, Ohio; Peggy Jones of Elliott, Iowa; and Jim and Jon Lewis both of Elliott, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Don Sullivan; Larry Light; Mark Light; Renee Freeman; Jill Lewis; Grant Lewis; Moriah Jones; Shae Lewis; Ashley Lewis; and Amelia Lewis; 4 great grandchildren: Chelsea; Zach; Sarah; and Kody; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the Elliott Church of Christ in Elliott, Iowa with the Rev. Kirk Dudley officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott. Visitation with the family will be from 7-8 PM Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Church of Christ, the Elliott Business and Betterment Association, or the Elliott Public Library.
