Steven C. Bitterman, age 62, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Steven Charles Bitterman was born January 9, 1947 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Clyde and Dorothy (Oman) Bitterman. He was raised in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1965. Steve served in the United States Air Force for 2 years and then attended Northwest Missouri State for two years until transferring to Iowa State where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Later he received his Masters Degree in History from Northwest Missouri State University. Steve was united in marriage to Marlene Watson on February 25, 1989 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Over the years Steve lived in Canada, San Francisco where he did social work, and then back to southwest Iowa where he did construction work for awhile and then taught school at Metro Tech College, Iowa Western Community College, and most recently Central Texas College aboard the USS Stout. Steve had many interests including collecting old toys, fishing, baseball, reading, politics, hunting, traveling, food and wine, and all of the Holidays. He was a fan of the KC Royals and the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved to go for Sunday drives usually not knowing where they would end up.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife Marlene Watson of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Allison Bitterman of Red Oak, Iowa; mother-in-law: Annabelle Watson of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister-in-law: Margaret McDonald and husband Patrick of Winnipeg, Manitoba; brother-in-law: Robert Watson and wife Suzanne of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister-in-law: Sherry Watson of Innisville, Alberta; cousin: Barbara Bills and husband Gordon of Creston, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 AM Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
