Effa M. Anderson, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at her residence after an extended illness. Effa Mildred Anderson was born December 13, 1925 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa near Henderson, the daughter of Kirk and Ethelyn (Harover) Samples. Effa grew up in Montgomery County, Iowa and was united in marriage to Merlin Anderson on February 23, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa. They have lived on the same farm for the past 46 years. Effa was a homemaker as well as helping Merlin with the farming. She loved gardening and cooking, but her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. Effa was a long time member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman where she was also a member of WELCA.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Willard, Earl, and Elvin Samples; sisters-in-law: Della Samples and Ramona Samples; and two grandchildren: Nicole Jipsen and Jared Jipsen. Survivors include her husband of 59 years: Merlin Anderson of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Alice Greever and husband Steve of Red Oak, Iowa; Martha Lantz and husband Dennis of Red Oak, Iowa; Mark Anderson and wife Deb of Mountain Home, Arkansas; Ella Pettis and husband Larry of Fremont, Nebraska; Paul Anderson of Red Oak, Iowa; Amy Jipsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Linda Askey and husband Mike of Red Oak, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: 3 great grandchildren; brothers: Tom Samples and wife Dale of Bothel, Washington and Kirk Samples and wife Delores of Red Oak, Iowa; sister: Mary Magneson and husband Duane of Red Oak, Iowa; sister-in-law: Marian Samples of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
