Earl E. Bishop, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa after an extended illness. Earl Elden Bishop was born September 15, 1916 on the family farm in Montgomery County, Iowa near Emerson the son of Clarence Wilburn and Beulah Mae (Rost) Bishop. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Emerson High School. He started farming with his father after high school. Earl was united in marriage to Geraldine Berryhill on October 28, 1947 and they made their home on the family farm. Earl farmed until moving into Red Oak in 1969. Earl was very active in the Champion Hill Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Any time the church doors were open, Earl was there. He loved his family and playing with his grandchildren. He also loved horses, especially breaking them to ride. With the introduction of tractors his preference was to continue farming with horses and letting his brothers operate the tractors. He enjoyed gardening, playing Dominos, mowing lawns, delivering the Weekly Times, and sharing jokes. He even carried a notebook so he could write down jokes so he could remember them to share with others. He was known to enjoy pizza, popcorn with milk, and “Grandpa’s Favorite”, soup beans and ham.
