James L. “Jim” Binns, age 53, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. James LeRoy “Jim” Binns was born February 5, 1953 in Villisca, Iowa the son of Glenn and Jean (Steadman) Binns. Jim attended school at Coburg, Iowa where he was in the last eighth grade class held there. He then became a member of the Red Oak Class of 1971. Jim served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He was stationed in Virginia Beach and Jacksonville, Florida where he served on the Ticonderoga when they met Apollo 16 and Apollo 17; the Saratoga; and the Nimitz when the movie the Final Countdown was filmed. Jim lived most of his life in the southwest Iowa and Red Oak area where he worked at Eveready Battery Plant and the Red Oak Greenhouse. Jim was united in marriage to Brenda Hall on April 13, 1996. He was an avid fisherman, sports enthusiast, St. Louis Cardinals Fan, and enjoyed working in his yard.

Jim was preceded in death by his step-father: Eldon “Smiley” Hankins. He is survived by his wife: Brenda Binns of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Ann Marie Binns Methany and husband Jim of Mason Town, West Virginia; and Jamie Binns and wife Dolly of Dover, Delaware; grandchildren: Xoe and Sammy; father: Glenn Binns and wife Rose Mary of Monona, Iowa; mother: Jean Hankins of Red Oak, Iowa; brothers and sisters: Dennis Binns and wife Sue of Red Oak, Iowa; Jane Franks and husband Randy of Red Oak, Iowa; Audrey Nielsen and husband Bob of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Kim Euken of Red Oak, Iowa; mother and father-in-law: Anita and Frank Hall of Shenandoah, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law: Scott Euken of Red Oak, Iowa; Teresa Ward of Shenandoah, Iowa; Dwayne Ward of Farragut, Iowa; Ron Hall of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mike Hall and wife Tina of Florence, Alabama; Karen Houston and husband Marrell of Essex, Iowa; and Larry Hall of Shenandoah, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Faith Community Church with Pastor Brett White officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
