Grace D. Lucas, age 87, of Villisca, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness. Grace Dorothy Lucas was born November 5, 1917 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Alice (Johnson) Alm. She grew up on a farm north of Stanton and attended country school nearby. Grace worked in Red Oak for several years and during World War II went with her sister, Viola, to California to work in a defense plant. After the war, she returned to the Red Oak area. While working in Red Oak she met a farmer from Nodaway, James Lynn Lucas. Grace and Lynn were united in marriage at the First Covenant Church in Red Oak on February 17, 1948. To this union was born a son, James Lucas. Grace, Lynn and James lived on a farm 2 miles east of Nodaway. Grace and Lynn were always together sharing the work load as well as the pleasures, such as the State Fairs, Trips to Canada, Michigan, California, and Florida, and the East Coast. Grace was an active member of the First Covenant Church in Red Oak, working at the County Fair Booth with the ladies society and teaching Sunday school. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for her culinary ability. And Grace always had a smile!!

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Lynn Lucas on April 18, 1992; her sister: Anna Allen in 1999; and sister: Viola Johnson in 2003. Survivors include her son: James Lucas and wife Jan of Nodaway, Iowa; 3 brothers: Carl Alm and wife Phyllis of Elliott, Iowa; Leonard Alm of Griswold, Iowa; and Darwin Alm and wife Juanita of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 sisters: Edith Rabe of Griswold, Iowa; and Lillian Madden of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, September 9, 2005 at the First Covenant Church in Red Oak with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, September 8, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Twin Lakes Christian Center or the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.
