Desiree Prater, age 12, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Desiree Renae Prater was born December 4, 1992 in Dodge City, Kansas the daughter of James Thomas and Katherine (Keil) Prater. Desiree was a fifth grader at the Elliott Elementary School in Elliott, Iowa. She loved drawing, fishing, and all of her animals. Desiree named every one of the animals at home from the chickens to the rabbits to the peacocks. She loved the outdoors and nature including butterflies.

Desiree was preceded in death by her great grandparents: Melvin and Ruby Hall. She is survived by her mother and step-father: Katherine and John Whitehead of rural Red Oak, Iowa; father: James Thomas Prater of Dalhart, Texas; brother: James Thomas Prater, Jr. of Dalhart, Texas; sister: Cassandra Keil of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Ryan Whitehead of Red Oak, Iowa; grandparents: Carol Studer of Dodge City, Kansas; Raymond Keil of Tempe, Arizona; John and Geraldine Whitehead of Fredonia, Kansas; and Jack Prater of Liberal, Kansas; great grandmother: Ila Reah Million of Fredonia, Kansas; many aunts and uncles; cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at the Elliott Church of Christ with Rev. Michael Hamilton officiating. There will be open visitation at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, April 5, 2005. Memorials are suggested to the family.
