Wayne Spicer, age 78, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after a sudden illness. Wayne Harold Spicer was born October 16, 1926 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Harold and Freda (Weseen) Spicer. Wayne’s dad died when Wayne was a young child. Wayne’s mother married Harvie Douglas who raised Wayne. He graduated from the Strahan High School in 1944 and started farming with Harvie until Harvie’s death in 1947. Wayne then started farming on his own. He was united in marriage to Janet Peterson on April 23, 1950 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived all of their married life on the same farm near Emerson, Iowa. Wayne was a member of the Emerson United Methodist Church and was a 55 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Emerson, Iowa. Wayne always loved his family and his international tractors.

Preceding him in death were his parents; step-father: Harvie Douglas; 2 infant siblings; and his son: Jim Spicer on May 19, 1995. Survivors include his wife: Janet Spicer of Emerson, Iowa; son: Terrie Spicer and wife Linda of Morrison, Colorado; daughter-in-law: Phyllis Spicer Paulsen and husband Dwayne of Emerson, Iowa; 3 grandchildren: Cathy Pollock and husband Bill of Sioux Center, Iowa; Jeff Spicer of Woodbine, Iowa; and Carol Spicer of Ames, Iowa; great-granddaughter: Kaitlyn; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be Masonic Rites held 6:30 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM.
