David Banker, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. David Adriance Banker was born March 24, 1914 in Ft. Madison, Iowa the son of Rev. Melvin and Esther (Woodruff) Banker and grew up in several Iowa towns. He graduated from the Elliott, Iowa High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. David was united in marriage to Lucile Goltry on April 17, 1933 in Grant City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on September 17, 1995. David owned and operated a filling station and garage in Elliott, Iowa for many years. He also operated a Dodge Dealership in Elliott, Iowa. Later, he and his wife owned and operated Banker Motors in Red Oak from 1963 until 1978. After retiring they spent 15 winters in Sun Lakes, Arizona. David enjoyed spending time at his daughter’s business and going to the Senior Citizens Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lucile on September 17, 1995; seven brothers and sisters; and one grandson: Alan who died in 1997.

Survivors include his 2 daughters: Adra Ann Goettsch and her husband Richard of Webster City, Iowa; and Mary Jane Walker of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 granddaughters: Lynette Walker of Red Oak, Iowa; and Amy Hartnett and her husband John of Storm Lake, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren: Morgan and Casey Walker of Red Oak, Iowa; Richard Glen and Lily Goettsch of Webster City, Iowa; and Kelsey and Jack Hartnett of Storm Lake, Iowa; many nieces, nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Jerry Dietz officiating. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A private family burial service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery prior to the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
