Mildred Keat, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Mildred Marie Keat was born January 15, 1917 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa the daughter of Merrill and Ethel (Coon) Woods. She grew up in the Wales and Center Ridge area. After school she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Keat on March 22, 1935 in Missouri. They lived and farmed all of their married life in Southwest Iowa. They moved to an acreage in 1976 when Jack retired from farming. Mildred retired in 1978 from the Union Carbide after 23 years of service. Jack preceded her in death on August 15, 1997. She moved into Red Oak in 2000. Over the years she enjoyed her gardening and was a 4-H leader for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Jack Keat; brother: Mike Woods; brother-in-law: Luverne Marcusson; son-in-law: Don Nelson; and daughter-in-law: Lorraine Keat.

Survivors include her son: Jack Keat of Red Oak, Iowa; 2 daughters: Jean Nelson of Red Oak, Iowa; and Shirley Koppen and husband Red of Red Oak, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Cynthia Davidson and husband Kevin of Wales, Iowa; Teresa Clark and husband Roger of Silver City, Iowa; Jack Keat, Jr. and wife Loni of Red Oak, Iowa; Pamela Ranney and husband Mark of Red Oak, Iowa; Christy Watkins and husband Seth of Clarinda, Iowa; Tracy White and husband Doug of Red Oak, Iowa; and Kandace Klumper and husband William of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 14 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; and 1 step-great great grandchild; sister: Jo Marcusson of Red Oak, Iowa; brother: Melvin Woods and wife Inez of Red Oak, Iowa; sister-in-law Marie Woods of Longmont, Colorado; sister-in-law: Dorothy Borns and husband Harry of Watertown, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Gary Walters officiating. Family and friends will gather at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel at 10:30 AM to proceed to the cemetery in procession. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, February 4, 2005 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Smoking Kills Education Awareness or the Heartland Hospice.
