Estalene Henderson, age 81, of Des Moines, Iowa formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at the Calvin Manor in Des Moines, Iowa. Estalene May Henderson was born September 1, 1923 in Henderson, Iowa the daughter of Orlo and May (Triplett) Harris. She was raised in the Henderson area and graduated from Henderson High School. She attended college and graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She started teaching school at Shenandoah, Iowa. Estalene was united in marriage to Davie M. Henderson on June 2, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived all of their married life in Red Oak where Estalene taught school until 1986 when she retired after 37 years of teaching. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a lifetime member of the NEA.

Estalene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Davie M. Henderson on October 31, 1987; and a brother: Dale Harris.

Survivors include her son: Terry Henderson and wife Ruth of West Des Moines, Iowa; 3 granddaughters: Michelle Henderson of Decorah, Iowa; Lisa Henderson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Carrie Henderson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; brother: Dwayne Harris of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, September 9, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Estalene Henderson Scholarship Fund. There will also be a visitation with the family in West Des Moines, Iowa at the Covenant Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 10, 2004 from 4:30-5:30 PM. Friends are welcome to greet the family in West Des Moines during this time.
