Marie E. Young, age 98, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska due to injuries sustained in a fall. Marie Eleanor Young was born August 12, 1905 in Kenesaw, Nebraska the daughter of Virgil and Anna (Nicholls) Young. She was raised in Nebraska graduating from the Trumbull, Nebraska High School. She attended Hastings College and graduated in 1927 with a Degree in Education. She also attended Iowa State College, University of Wyoming, University of Southern California, and University of Wisconsin. Her teaching career of 44 years started in Sargeant, Nebraska and terminated in Red Oak, Iowa when she retired in 1972. Five of those years she taught in a mountain mission in Kentucky. After retirement, Marie taught in Guatemala at a missionary childrenís school. Marie was a member of the First Covenant Church where she taught a young married peopleís class and was very active throughout the years. She also volunteered at the nursing homes and the hospital.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; a twin brother: Marion; and her older brother: Newton.

Survivors include her brother, Verne Young of Sun City, Arizona; Nephew, Wesley Young of Little Compton, Rhode Island; niece, Beth Itnyre of La Marada, California; niece, Shirlee Plummer of Whittier, California; and nephew, Darrell Young of Prescott, Arizona; many great nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the First Covenant Church with Rev. David Carlson officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at the Kenesaw, Nebraska Cemetery on Thursday July 1, 2004 at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Covenant Church.
