Pearl McVay, age 87, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness. Pearl McVay was born October 22, 1916 in Rogers, Arkansas the daughter of John and Opal (Bowman) Gage. Pearl attended school in Arkansas until moving with her family to Iowa in 1930. On June 22, 1935 she was united in marriage to Acie McVay in Red Oak, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with three children. The family resided in areas West of Henderson, Iowa and in the Macedonia, Iowa area until settling in Henderson. Pearl worked in a variety of jobs throughout the Mills County area and Red Oak making numerous friends. She served as caregiver, laborer, and was a Certified Nurses Aide at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Upon retirement she enjoyed quilting with her friends. In later years, Pearl and Acie moved into an apartment in Emerson. Acie preceded her in death on February 21, 1983. Pearl continued to live in Emerson until moving to the Vista Gardens Care Center in Red Oak and later the Good Samaritan Care Center.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 sisters: Elsie Prine; Irene Mabbitt; and Lucille Laverty; 2 brothers: Earl Gage; and John Gage, Jr.,; and 1 great granddaughter: Anne Marie McVay.

Survivors include her 3 children: Genevieve Albright and good friend Mary Miedl of Omaha, Nebraska; Delbert McVay and wife Connie of Glenwood, Iowa; and Beverly Duysen and husband Carroll of Emerson, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother: Curtis Gage and friend Ellen of Bedford, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law: Opal Gage of Emerson, Iowa; Myrtle McVay of Denison, Iowa; and Vi McVay of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Shores officiating. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family of Pearl McVay.
