Volney M. “Von” Dahlstrom, age 99, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Volney M. “Von” Dahlstrom was born August 22, 1904 near Stanton, Iowa the son of Martin and Josephine (Florin) Dahlstrom. He was raised in Montgomery County and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1924. Volney was united in marriage to Flora Adams on September 15, 1926 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived most of their married life in Montgomery County, Iowa except for 11 years which they spent in Page County, Iowa near Bethesda. While living in the Bethesda area, Volney was a member and served on the board of the Bethesda Lutheran Church. In 1949, they moved to the Wallin area and in 1971 into Red Oak. Volney was a member of the Tabor Lutheran Church at Wallin for many years where he served on the church board as treasurer and over the years held many other positions. When they moved to Red Oak, Volney became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Flora Dahlstrom on May 17, 1997; 2 brothers: Paul and Bert Dahlstrom; and sister: Laurine Bowles; and a daughter-in-law: Cynthia Dahlstrom.

Survivors include his daughter: Dorothy Donohue and her husband Delaine of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son: Russel Dahlstrom of Longmont, Colorado; 5 grandchildren: Deborah Saul and her husband Jacque of Lilburn, Georgia; Rebecca Ingram and her husband Duane of Lafayette, California; Denise Dahlstrom of Longmont, Colorado; Russel Dahlstrom, Jr. of Platteville, Colorado; and Susan Mallard and her husband Jim of Oswego, Illinois; 10 great grandchildren; special sister-in-law: Vernita Adams of Red Oak, Iowa; sister-in-law: Helen Dahlstrom of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law: Larry Bowles; step-brother-in-law: Earl Gemmill of Elliott, Iowa; step-sister-in-law: Florence Peterman and her husband Jim of Villisca, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
