Jaquelin LaRoy, age 74, of Wilmette, Illinois and Red Oak, Iowa passed away August 4, 2003 inWilmette, Illinois. Jaquelin LaRoy was born October 3, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Herbert and Blanche (Griffith) LaRoy. Jaquelin’s grandparents were Thomas and Mary (Negus) Griffith. Her grandfather, Thomas Griffith was believed to be the first Mayor of Red Oak who founded the town of Griffithville and platted an addition to Red Oak known as Griffith’s Addition. Jaquelin grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from the New Trier High School and attended Frances Shimer College where she studied Journalism for 2 years. The LaRoy family traveled extensively over the years, spending long summers in Red Oak and winters in California. Jaquelin had a genetic disease, Neurofibomatosis, that progressed over the years until she became very disabled. Despite her handicap she had an active social life and enjoyed her friends. She was very involved in the Wilmette Community Church, the Women’s Club of Wilmette, and sang in the choir at the First Congregational Church in Red Oak. Jaquelin also sold Avon for many years. She often said that she would retire to Red Oak but that dream never became a reality. The last nine months of her life she was a resident in a nursing home in Wilmette.

Memorial services will be held 10 AM Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the First Congregational Church UCC with Pastor Elizabeth Dilley-Gonzales officiating. Burial of ashes will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church of Red Oak.
