Cleta Nissen, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska after an extended illness. Cleta Mae Nissen was born August 15, 1920 in Chattanooga, Tennessee the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Soaper) Gilbert. She was raised in the Essex area graduating from the Essex High School in 1938. She attended Center College in Danville, Kentucky before moving to Tarkio College where she graduated in 1942. Cleta was united in marriage to Mearle Clark on February 14, 1942 in Maryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1968. She was united in marriage to Donald Nissen on January 11, 1970. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1988. After Donald’s death Cleta moved to Acorn Acres in Red Oak where she lived until moving to the Stanton Care Center several years ago. Cleta was a homemaker and also taught school for several years. She loved music, crocheting, and reading.

Survivors include her son: Thomas Clark and his wife Jeanne of Red Oak, Iowa; her daughter: Anita Smith and her friend Joe Jones of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren; Michael James Smith and his wife Jean of Atlantic Beach, Florida; Anthony James Clark and his wife Jennifer of Red Oak, Iowa; and Tammi Lynn Redd and her husband Brian of Coburg, Iowa; 7 great grandchildren: Emily and Tarra Clark; Cassi, Jessi, and Emma Redd; Jesse Waites; and Kristi Davis; foster granddaughter: Tamami Smith and her husband Jerry of Guam; foster great grandchildren: Susan and Jerry Smith, both of Guam; sister: Tommie Mayes and her husband Kenneth of Dahlonega, Georgia; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 Am Friday, May 23, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial of the ashes will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
