Lifetime Red Oak resident Terry Joe Adams achieved that "peaceful, easy feeling" that the Eagles sang about when he passed away on January 4, 2022.

Terry was born on October 2, 1949 to Otto and Dorothy Adams. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18. During his several years of service, he enjoyed worldwide travelling. After his service, he returned to Red Oak where he worked at various Red Oak factories over the years. Terry always prided himself on being a hard worker. He would go on to raise his family in Red Oak as well.

Terry loved passing the time by listening to music, especially artists such as the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Gary Allen, and he always made sure to play his favorite track by Procol Harum “A Whiter Shade of Pale”. An avid Hawkeye fan, he was always sure to tune into the Iowa football games each season. Terry was most happy and content with a fishing pole in his hand at various farm ponds around the area with a Hawkeyes hat perched on his head.

Terry also enjoyed spending his spare time dabbling in poetry, and song writing (a little-known fact about him). He wrote many poems over the years and wrote a song for his daughter Angie’s wedding. The following is perhaps the poem Terry was the proudest of.

“A Silent Passing”

The leaves hung still
On silent trees
Waves just whispered
Across the seas.

The birds weren’t singing
Their familiar tune
An explanation was coming
Sadly, too soon.

No ships had set sail
No planes in the sky
All the workers called off
But no one knew why.

The streets were all empty
No traffic in sight
The sounds of a ghost town
Paid a visit that night.

The six pure white horses
Came walking so slow
With a funeral carriage
Directly in tow.

The people stood silent
All sharing their shame
As the casket passed by
They remember his name.

On the face of the Earth
Nations' flags stood unfurled
For inside the coffin
Sat God with the world.

Terry is survived by his wife, Diane Adams; daughter Angie Collinsworth of Wichita, son Ryan (Megan) Adams of Red Oak, step-daughter Sandy Frink, step-son Brian (Dawn) Brockman; grandchildren Brooke, Hannah, Brayton, Kennady, Harper, Stephanie and Daltynn; sisters Vicki (Lee) Jobe of Red Oak, Debbie Veitz of Creston, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Brian Adams, daughter Tracy Adams, and infant son Jeffrey Adams and first wife Jennifer (Dean) Adams.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date for the family.
