Glen L. Confer, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly Essex, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Glen was born February 13, 1931, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Glen and Marcel (Ballain) Confer. Glen attended Garfield #5 country school and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1949. He served in the United States Marines from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Carlson on November 25, 1954, at the Essex Presbyterian Church. They lived in Red Oak for a short time before moving to Mortonís Mill, where Glen farmed and drove truck for Penwell Grain. One daughter, Teresa, was born in 1956 and daughter, Becky, joined the family in 1959. In 1960, Glen and Carolyn moved to rural Essex, Iowa, where son, Chris, was born in 1961. They resided at Pineview Farms until 2013 when they moved to Red Oak, Iowa. Glen farmed for many years and had various other jobs including driving bus for Essex School District, working at Johnson Locker in Essex, and Eaton Manufacturing from 1986-1996. Over the years, Glen was a 4-H leader in Montgomery and Page Counties and served on the Fair Board in both counties. He served on the Essex School Board for 9 years and served on the Essex Telephone Board. Glen was a longtime member of the Essex Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained Elder. He also was awarded a Quilt of Valor in June of 2018 for his military service. His hobbies included broom making with Carolyn, square dancing, woodworking, and fixing stuff. Since moving to Red Oak, Glen has enjoyed flower gardening, especially filling his yard with Stargazer Lilies. In his later years, he enjoyed putting together puzzles.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Jack Confer; and sister-in-law: Betty Confer. Survivors include his wife: Carolyn Confer of Red Oak, IA; children: Rev. Teresa Bartlett of Wayne, NE; Becky Lade and husband Tom of Ankeny, IA; and Chris Confer and wife Diane of Watauga, TX; grandchildren: Corrie Aghia and husband Joe of Medford, MA; Garrett Lade of Des Moines, IA; and Sabrina Confer Buster and husband Adam of North Richland Hills, TX; step-grandchildren: Amanda Bond of Ft. Worth, TX and Kyle Cashion and husband Nathan Delapaz of Burleson, TX; great granddaughter: Inara Aghia; step-great grandchildren: Preston and Maddison Bond; brother-in-law: Jerry Carlson and wife Jill of Cedar Falls, IA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 10 AM Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Essex Presbyterian Church in Essex, Iowa. Burial will be in the Essex Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Essex Presbyterian Church.
