Brenda Lee Fort Hayes, age 62, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Brenda was born June 2, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of LaVerne and Mardell (Peterson) Fort. She attended school in Red Oak, Iowa.

Brenda was united in marriage to Russ Hayes on January 1, 1982. This union joined two families into one. Their children, Tony, Rusty, Angie, Scott, and Jenny welcomed a brother Brett to complete the family. Brenda and Russ spent most weekends camping. Many times, this was with the grandkids in tow. They also enjoyed camping trips with friends. Brenda loved to garden and plant flowers, the outdoors, and attending the grandkids events. Many weekends were spent on the road with Jenny traveling to Reese’s volleyball tournaments or Heath’s basketball games. She loved traveling to Arizona to visit Brett, taking trips to Florida to the ocean, and taking walks with her dog Sadie. Brenda was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. Her specialty was cheesecake and candies. She loved putting together cookie and candy trays for friends and family at Christmastime. She loved shopping with Jenny, keeping her home beautiful, and spending time with family.

Brenda worked at Eveready Battery Co. and later Parker Hannifin Company until cancer forced her to retire in January 2014. Brenda fought long and hard. She wasn’t going to let cancer stop her from living her best life. A true Superhero!
Preceding her in death were her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 39 years, Russ; children: Scott Martin, Jenny Jackson, Brett Hayes (Jessica), Tony Hayes, Rusty Hayes (Christy), and Angie Hayes (Bill Rigby); grandchildren: Reese Jackson, Heath Jackson, Blake Haidsiak, Lexi Gonzales, Cree Slough (Maddie), Jasmine Rigby, Caitlyn Hayes, Maddie Hayes, Aaron Jackson (Hannah), Erica Jackson, and Rowyn Rigby ; 2 great grandchildren; brothers: Curtis Fort (Carol), Lonnie Fort (Kathy), and Tony Fort (Jana); and many other relatives, friends, and special pup, Sadie.
