Effie Darlene Martinez, age 58, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away, Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Effie was born April 24, 1962 in Searcy, Arkansas, the daughter of James and Wanda (Ausburn) Armstrong. She was raised in Searcy and Little Rock, Arkansas. Effie was united in marriage to Leo Martinez on May 8, 1980 in Jacksonville, Arkansas while Leo was in the military. They were transferred to Offutt AFB and Effie attended Metro Community College, and received her undergraduate work through University of Nebraska at Omaha. Effie later received her Nurse Practitioner Degree from Creighton University. She worked for a cardiologist in Omaha for 5 years before moving to the Emerson, Iowa, area and was currently working for Clarinda Regional Hospital in the Villisca Family Health Center. Effie’s passion was taking care of people. She also enjoyed planting things and was a voracious reader.

Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband: Leo Martinez of Emerson, IA; sons: David Matthew Martinez of Bellevue, NE and Leo Manuel Martinez III and wife Pearlisa of Blue Hill, NE; grandchildren: Malcolm Martinez and Love Madly Martinez; sister: Teresa Armstrong of Red Oak, IA; niece: Effie Sutter and husband Patrick of Ankeny, IA; mother-in-law: Theresa Schibata of Honolulu, HI; brothers-in-law: Alfonso Martinez and wife Anita of Cheyenne, WY and James Martinez of Kirkland, WA; and other relatives and many friends.

There will be no services at this time.

Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
