Wayne Echternach, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 25, 2020, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born September 29, 1930 in Lewis, Iowa, the son of Archie and Enid (Conley) Echternach. He was raised near Coburg, Iowa where he attended school. He later received his GED. After school, Wayne helped his father in the farming operation before serving in the United States Army being stationed in Korea. He was a cook and continued in that field when he returned from service. Wayne was united in marriage to Ruth Allen on August 31, 1963 in Red Oak, Iowa. Wayne worked in several restaurants in the area and cooked for Holiday Inn for 10 years before going to work for Uniroyal. He retired in 1997 under the company name of Parker Hannifin Corporation. Wayne loved to grow flowers and vegetables and manicure his lawn. He was known to be very kind and generous giving a lot of his produce away to friends and neighbors. He always liked to laugh, play jokes, and spend time with his family especially the grandkids. He taught all the grandkids his fishing skills throughout the years. He was a western history buff, reading many westerns books and watching old western movies. Wayne had a love for birds and squirrels. He had feeders outside his window that would attract many different species of birds and many squirrels.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Ruth; siblings: Lavern, Dale, and Elmer Echternach; Glendora Pool; and Leota Garrison. Survivors include his daughter: Lori Fennell and husband Richard of Council Bluffs, IA; step-children: Steve Vanderhoof and Susan Vanderhoof of Springfield, MO; grandchildren: Shana Iles and husband Jake of Clarinda, IA; Brandon Davis and fiancée Aubrey of Omaha, NE; Anthony Davis and wife Christine of Surprise, AZ; Aric Fennell and wife Wendy of Olathe, KS; Todd Vanderhoof and wife Laurie of Springfield, MO; Tara Raaphorst and husband Pete of Springfield, MO; and Jessica Weir of Springfield, MO; 10 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Donald Allen of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

A private family funeral will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. The funeral will live streamed through the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel’s Facebook page. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open viewing at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel from Noon until 7 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
