Max Eugene Meggison, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Max was born October 30, 1938 in Adams County, Iowa, the son of Edward and Daisy (Hinkle) Meggison. The family moved to Montgomery County when Max was 14 years old. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Max worked for many years at Eveready Battery Plant in Red Oak. He was united in marriage to Detta Huffman on November 24, 1970 in Omaha, Nebraska. Max loved helping with the “Citizens Patrol” and using his CB Radio. His handle was “Big Mac”. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Baron and Chipper, watching trains and wrestling, and visiting with family and friends. In the recent days, Max enjoyed the friendship he found with Pat Shannon while living at Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Detta Meggison; brothers: Howard and Jerry; sisters: Rita Hilzendeger, Shirley Jannssen, and Nancy Davis; and special friend. Pat Shannon. Survivors include his daughters: Kathy Carpenter of Omaha, NE and Denise Fish of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Amy Masterson and husband Rob of Montezuma, IA; David Morelock and wife Patti of Madisonville, KY; Ryan Hansen of Omaha, NE; Andrew Hansen of Red Oak, IA; Zacharia Holland of Oregon; Rachel Bedsole of Iowa; and Rob Dein and wife Sara of Blair, NE; great grandchildren: Edric Lambert, Cambriya Morelock, Madison Bedsole, and Jackson, Jacob, and Jordan Dein; brother: Marvin Meggison and wife Norma of Glenwood, IA; sister: Linda Smith of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law: Jo Alice Meggison of Red Oak, IA; and many cousins including a special cousin: Dick Meggison of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

A private family celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Crossroads Community Church with livestreaming for the public through the funeral home’s Facebook page. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
