Joy Shearer, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska after a sudden illness. Joy was born January 29, 1931 in Sherman Township of Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of John and Bessie (Templeton) Van Buskirk. She was raised in the Red Oak and Elliott area graduating from Elliott High School in 1949. Joy was united in marriage to Dwayne Shearer on April 15, 1950 in Elliott, Iowa. They farmed for many years and moved into Red Oak in 1987. Joy worked for over thirty years at Good Samaritan Society. Her hobbies included doing crafts, sewing, and baking.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Dwayne Shearer on February 12, 2019; and brothers: Billy, Max, and Lanny. Survivors include her sons: Rick Shearer and wife Janet of Griswold, IA and Lynn Shearer and wife Sheri of Sunrise Beach, MO; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Rachel Gilley of Creston, IA and Elnora Rice of Des Moines, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30-Noon on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A private family burial of ashes will take place at Noble Center Cemetery.
