Jerry Joseph Meggison, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Jerry was born July 14, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Edward and Daisy (Hinkle) Meggison. He was raised in Carbon, Iowa, and Red Oak, Iowa, graduating from Red Oak High School in 1962. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and returned to Red Oak where he lived his entire life. Jerry was united in marriage to Jo Alice Rold on April 29, 1967 in Wales, Iowa. They made their home in Red Oak. Over the years, Jerry worked for Union Carbide Corporation until it closed, White House Lawns, Dan Phelps Farms, KRC Farms, and the rock quarry north of Red Oak. He also had been a paid fireman and a volunteer fireman for the City of Red Oak. Jerry loved to have fun with friends, fishing, yard work, gardening, swimming, and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids and great grandkids.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters: Rita Hilzendeger and Shirley Janssen; and brother: Howard Meggison. Survivors include his wife of almost 52 years: Jo Alice Meggison; daughters: Julie Masters and husband Steve of Red Oak and Jennifer Smith of Red Oak; 7 grandchildren: Ryan Eggleston and wife Tara of Red Oak; Jacob Eggleston and wife Jayden of Red Oak; Hannah Sederburg and husband Dusty of Elliott, IA; Daize Pontow and husband Paul of Red Oak; and Ben Coddington, Chloe Smith, and Carli Smith all of Red Oak; 8 great grandchildren: Brody Holmes, Mackenzie and Otto Sederburg, Stryder, Severyn, and Orion Eggleston, and Landon and Rowan Coddington; his beloved Boston Terrier: “Happy Girl”; brothers: Marvin Meggison and wife Norma of Glenwood, IA and Max Meggison of Red Oak; sisters: Nancy Davis and husband Jack of Red Oak and Linda Smith of Red Oak; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at the Gomer Cemetery near Wales, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
