Evelyn I Stebbins, age 84, of Arlington Place of Red Oak, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2019 due to multiple health problems at the Red Oak Memorial Hospital. She was born July 5, 1934 in Ainsworth Iowa, to Edward Sr. and Bessie Shook. She married Ralph Stebbins Jr., on July 13, 1958, who preceded her in death in February of 2018.

Evelyn friended many people during her life. Ralph and Evelyn started their married life in Cicero, Illinois, and then moved to Gahanna, Ohio. After several years they moved to Naperville, Illinois. Later they moved to Rockwall, Texas, to finish their work life together. When it became time to retire, they decided to move to the Springfield, Missouri area living in Nixa. There they enjoyed many years of hosting friends that they had made from across the country as well as family members who came often to visit the Branson area. When their health required additional help, they decided to move to Red Oak, Iowa for their final days together.

Evelyn was always very Interested in learning during her life. She graduated from Delta High School in Iowa, and then attended Iowa State Teachers College, (now Northern Iowa). There she met Shirley Stebbins and then later met Ralph, who became her husband. She started her working life in Tipton Iowa, dating Ralph, who was attending Iowa University. They were married and moved to the Chicago area where she attended Northern Illinois University, first receiving her Master of Science – Child Development and then later received her Doctorate in Education – Elementary/Early Childhood. She used her many skills to teach and lead many children programs both in Chicago, Illinois and Rockwall, Texas areas.

Both Ralph and Evelyn were very generous and were instrumental in buying a summer home at West Okoboji. The vacations and time spent there were some of greatest times they ever had together.

Evelyn is survived by her brother Ed Shook Jr. and Ralph’s family of Gerry Humphrey, Phyllis Stebbins and Robert Stebbins, plus many nieces and nephews and their families.

A Memorial service will be planned later in the spring.
