Dorothy “Dottie” Ann Burke Jacobs, 90, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 27th, 2018, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dottie was born on June 12th, 1928, in Omaha, Nebraska to John and Margaret (Kohler) Burke. She was raised in Omaha, graduating from Benson High School and working for Matthews Book Store until her marriage to Frank Jacobs, Jr., on August 8th, 1948. They first farmed near Mead and later Malmo, Nebraska, then purchased a farm near Villisca, Iowa in 1964 following two devastating floods. They moved into Villisca in 1980, and Frank continued to farm until his passing as Dottie kept the books, brought out snacks and lunch, and transferred her family from field to field. During that time, Dottie also enjoyed working in the clothing store on the Villisca square, The Wardrobe, before her retirement.

Dottie will be remembered not only for her love of farming alongside her husband, but also for her continued efforts in maintaining their legacy in agricultural conservation. She was also a dedicated Sunday and Bible School teacher in both Malmo and Villisca, and was a 4-H leader for over 20 years. Throughout her life, her love and care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her utmost passion. She also loved traveling, listening to polka music, and watching The Lawrence Welk Show. Later in life, she enjoyed having coffee and playing Skip-bo and dominoes with her friends and caring for her beloved cat, Frankie. Dottie will forever be admired for her quick wit, generosity, and endearing smile which brought joy to those that were so fortunate to have met her on the path of life.
Preceding Dottie in death were her parents and her father and mother-in-law Frank William, Sr. and Irene (Rose) Jacobs, her husband, her sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Roy Watson, and her brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” Jacobs.

Dottie and Frank were blessed with two sons and two daughters: Bill (Rachel) Jacobs of rural Villisca, Peggy Jacobs of Atlantic, Iowa, Ken (Diane) Jacobs of rural Nodaway, Iowa, and Julie (Gary) Clark of Huxley, Iowa. She has nine adored grandchildren: Chad (Nicky) Jacobs of Villisca, Scott (Dani) Jacobs of Villisca, and Jeff (Kelsey) Jacobs of Ankeny, Iowa; Seth Jacobs of Washington, DC; Katie James of Corning, Iowa and Dan (Tanishia) Jacobs of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Renee (David) Voves of Waverly, Iowa, Sarah (Chris) Chiaramonte of Des Moines, Iowa, and Ryan (Bethany) Clark of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Those also left to cherish Dottie’s memories are her 12 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-laws Dorothy (Bill) Mohr of Chadron, Nebraska and Marilyn Jacobs of Fremont, Nebraska, her brother-in-law Don (Judy) Jacobs of Blair, Nebraska, and her special caregiver Deloris Williams of Villisca, as well as her nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 31st, 2018 at the Villisca United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Villisca Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, August 30th, 2018 at the Villisca United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Villisca United Methodist Church.
