Lois Wilma Woodfill, age 93, of Strahan, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Lois was born April 9, 1925 on a farm five miles west of Red Oak where she grew up. She was the fifth of six children of Ray Martin and Elsie Charlotte (Rush) Tomlinson. She attended Garfield country school for three years, then continued her education in Red Oak. Lois met Jared Woodfill and they both graduated from Red Oak High School in 1942. Lois attended business school in Omaha and later worked for a bank in Red Oak until her marriage to Jared on April 9, 1944. They were married on Easter Sunday at the First Christian Church in Red Oak. They established a farm operation one mile south of Strahan, but Jared was soon called to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. Susan, their daughter, was born in 1945 and they were with Jared in Stillwater, Oklahoma and Chicago, Illinois. After Jared was honorably discharged, they returned to the farm. Roger, their son, was born in 1948. Lois spent her life on the farm, enjoying her garden, the flowers, and birds. She spent many hours helping with 4-H and volunteered with Military Amateur Radio Services to process and handle messages from military personnel stationed overseas to family back in the states. Through her involvement with a woman’s group, Lois led a project to plat all the cemeteries in Mills County. The past four months, Lois has been a resident of the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Jared in 2009; brother: Dean Tomlinson and wife Anna LaVerne; sisters: Faye Wookey and husband Adrian, Ruby Arnold and husband William, and Erma Lyda and husband Cliff; and brother-in-law: Bill Taylor. Survivors include her daughter: Susan Wettling and husband Fred of Knoxville, TN; son: Roger Woodfill of Strahan, IA; grandchildren: Jeff Genung and wife Jennifer, Sam Wettling, and Sara Parry and husband Ben all of Texas; 4 great grandchildren; sister: Fern Taylor of Lincoln, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
