Theodore Edward “Ted” Sparr, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at his residence. Ted was born December 8, 1938 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Arthur and Wilhelmina (Scheerbarth) Sparr. He graduated from Wales Lincoln High School in 1956 and Tarkio College in 1960. Ted served in the Iowa Army National Guard and started working for C.O. Dutton and Associates accounting firm in 1961. Ted was united in marriage to Carol Vogele on August 13, 1967 in Rulo, Nebraska. They bought the accounting business in 1968 and Ted worked until he had a stroke in 1999. Ken Marsden worked with Ted and eventually the business was sold to Randy Elarton and became Elarton Accounting. As a youth he was involved with 4-H and as and adult he was an avid supporter of both 4-H and the Montgomery County Fair. The Sparr family was inducted into the Montgomery County Fair Hall of Fame in 2017. He also received other honors including the Alumni of Distinction Award at the annual Wales Alumni Banquet, Fan of the Year Award from the Tag-a-long Booster Club, and Grand Marshall for the 2008 Homecoming Parade. Ted had many hobbies including “collecting”. He had collections of coins, shot glasses, Pepsi memorabilia, tools, wrenches, and even wood. He enjoyed his garage and doing woodworking projects. He made many birdhouses over the years. He loved football and doing jig saw puzzles. Ted also enjoyed people and a chance to visit whenever he could. His family describes Ted as kind, patient, determined, honest, and gentle.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant brother: Donald. Survivors include his wife of 50 plus years: Carol; daughter: Trasy Sparr of Omaha, NE; siblings: Robert Sparr and wife Joyce of Shambaugh, IA; Dolores Buehler and husband Duane of Richmond, VA; Doreen Stretch and husband Doug of Lexington, KY; and Dean Sparr and wife Diana of Neola, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, May 18, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Sparr Family Scholarship Fund or the First United Methodist Church.
