Jerold Lee “Jerry” Greenfield, age 86, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his residence. Jerry was born May 17, 1931 in Page County, Iowa the son of Glen and Ruby (Stalder) Greenfield. He grew up in Page and Montgomery County. Jerry attended two years of high school in Stanton but graduated from Villisca High School in 1950. While in high school, Jerry joined the Iowa Army National Guard and served for 40 years. He was united in marriage to Carol Patterson on December 28, 1955 in Villisca, Iowa. They made Villisca their home. Jerry started his work career with Villisca Community Gas Station and then transferred to the telephone company retiring in 1996. He then worked part time for the phone company. Jerry was filled with a patriotic spirit and was a longtime member of the Villisca American Legion Post # 251 where he served as Sgt at Arms. He helped for many years with the Company F Reunion, cooked for the annual POW Dinner every December 7th, and was on the committee for the honor bricks placed in the park for veterans. Jerry was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church and the Villisca Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, woodworking, his motorcycle, and his 1954 Buick that he owned twice. His favorite past time was spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Ed Greenfield; brothers-in-law: John Patterson and Floyd Hamman; and sisters-in-law: Shirley Patterson, Anna Marie Patterson, and Pat Greenfield. Survivors include his wife: Carol Greenfield of Villisca, IA; daughters: Trudy Johannsen and husband Clay of Avoca, IA and Tracy Carlson of Lancaster County, PA; grandchildren: Chase Johannsen and wife Christie of Adel, IA; Cole Johannsen and wife Rachel of Glenwood, IA; Kylee Carlson of Reading, PA; and Drew Carlson of Santa Cruz, CA; great granddaughters: Adalynn and Peyton Johannsen and Hanna Hetrick; sister: Dorothy Hamman of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: Don Patterson of Villisca, IA; sister-in-law: Norma Parish of Villisca, IA; aunt: Ruth Lampe of Winterset, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Villisca United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Villisca United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to the Villisca United Methodist Church, Villisca Volunteer Fire Department, Villisca EMT’s, or Heartland Hospice.
