David Allen DeJongh, age 65, of Essex, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. David was born July 8, 1951 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota the son of Freeman and Wanda (Dykstra) DeJongh. The family moved to Iowa in 1965 where David graduated with the Red Oak High School Class of 1970. He then attended Southwestern Community College getting a degree in Mechanics. He was united in marriage to Jean DeBolt and later to Susie Schmidt. David and Susie had two children: Nathan and Heidi. David lived in California for five years and moved back to Iowa. He lived in the Essex area for most of his life. He was a commercial painter working in Omaha for many years. David loved the outdoors, was a wonderful gardener, and loved nice cars and motorcycles.

Preceding him in death was his father: Freeman DeJongh. Survivors include his children: Nathan DeJongh of Nyman, IA and Heidi DeJongh and Michael Johnson of Essex, IA; grandson: Michael David Johnson of Essex, IA; mother: Wanda DeJongh of Johnston, IA; sister: Kathy Levine and husband Charles of Johnston, IA; brother: Jim DeJongh of Johnston, IA; nephews and nieces: Jacob DeJongh of Brooklyn, NY; Desiree Bosworth and husband Steve of Pocatello, ID; Hannah Foster and husband Tyler of N. Liberty, IA; and Mark Levine of Johnston, IA; great nephew: Rye Bosworth; great niece: Grace Bosworth; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a visitation time one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
