Dennis Orville Scott, age 69, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Dennis was born September 17, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Irma Laverne (Johnson) Scott. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1965 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Norma Wilson on December 20, 1970 in Villisca, Iowa. Two daughters were born to this union: Denise and Becky. Dennis joined the Iowa National Guard after he was discharged from active duty in 1973. He served with units in Villisca, Creston and Des Moines retiring in 2006. Dennis was united in marriage to Cindy Askey on August 4, 1990. Over the years, he worked for Union Carbide/Eveready, Pel Gas, the hospital, and drove truck over the road until 2008. He was a longtime member of both the American Legion and the VFW in Villisca. His hobbies included NASCAR Racing, gardening, tending to his flowers, spending time with the grandkids, and was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan.

Preceding him in death was his father. Survivors include his wife: Cindy Scott of Elliott, IA; children: Denise Branan and husband Tony of Villisca, IA; Becky Scott of Vacaville, CA; Melissa Dickson and husband David of Shenandoah, IA; and Kyle Docker and wife Melinda of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; grandchildren: Casey Branan and wife Alex of Council Bluffs, IA; Chris Branan of Villisca; Aaron Newton and Pruett Newton of Omaha, NE; and Kaden, Kaleb, Kingston, and Morgan Docker of Ft. Leonard Wood; great granddaughter: Natalie Branan of Council Bluffs; mother: Irma Laverne Meggison of Shenandoah; sisters: Kathy Racine and husband Randy of New Market, IA; Doris Blum of Imperial Beach, CA; Kay Cole of Afton, IA; and Diana Freshour of Villisca; brother: Doug Scott of Villisca; brothers-in-law: Randy Askey and Rick Askey of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
