Matthew Dean Hughes, age 45, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 at his residence. Matthew was born November 5, 1969 in Shenandoah, Iowa the son of John and Phyllis (Maca) Hughes. The family moved to Red Oak in 1972 where Matthew attended school and graduated with the Red Oak High School Class of 1988. He started his working career at HyVee in Red Oak. Over the years, he worked at Eaton's and Lisle Corporation as a machinist and a meter reader in Bentonville, Arkansas and Red Oak. Matt enjoyed fishing and camping, family functions, and spending time with his grandkids.

Preceding him in death were his father: John; sister: Debbie; and niece: Melissa. Survivors include his wife: Kristen Hughes of Red Oak; children: Logun Hughes and wife Tera of Red Oak and Chauntel "Blake" Kinnison and husband TJ of Red Oak; grandchildren: Olyvia and Isaak Hughes and Kaiden and Hunter Kinnison; mother: Phyllis Hughes of Rogers, AR; brothers and sisters: Lee Hughes and wife Debbie of Villisca, IA; Linda Reed and husband Wayne of Arkansas; Nancy Ehlers and husband Jim of Arkansas; Paula Sanders of Arkansas; Chris Hughes and wife Cindy of Red Oak; Geri Kester of Red Oak; Bruce Hughes and wife Peggy of Gardner, KS; Monica Steffen and husband Gary of Seoul, South Korea; and Bart Hughes of Red Oak; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Larry and Lana Ray of Red Oak; brother-in-law: Jon Ray of Red Oak; sister-in-law: Carolyn Chambers of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends.


A memorial funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday, May 22, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Tom Kunnel, TOR officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
