Darwin L. “Rosy” Rossander, age 65, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, February 11, 2013. Darwin Leroy “Rosy” Rossander was born October 23, 1947 in Clarinda, Iowa the son of Harry and Dorothy (Nelson) Rossander. He attended school in Stanton and later served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was a still photo lab specialist. Upon his return from military service Rosy worked at the COOP in Stanton, Nachurs Fertilizer Plant and Parker Hannifin Corporation in Red Oak before retiring due to health issues. In his later years he helped as a farm hand for area farmers. Darwin was a longtime American Legion member serving as Commander of Ernie Johnson Post for 12 years and several years as District 7 Commander. He was also an instructor for the American Legion Shooting Sports through 4 H as well as being a 4 H leader. He was a lifetime member of VFW, Southwest Iowa Booster Club member, First Covenant Church member, and was an avid ambassador for all Stanton activities. The community recognized him in 2008 with the “Ole Award”. Darwin‘s hobbies included hunting and fishing, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his daughter: Sally Stoakes and husband Daniel of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Alexis, Weston, Evelyn, and Mitchell Stoakes of Omaha, NE; brothers: Robert “Ross” Rossander and wife Sandy of Stanton, IA; Harold Rossander and wife LaDonna of Stanton, IA; and Richard Rossander and wife Rebecca of Eastland, TX; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli and Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Mission Covenant Cemetery near Stanton. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to the family of Darwin Rossander.
