Velma R. Howard, age 82, of Kimberling City, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 19, 2002 at Skaggs Community Hospital in Branson, Missouri after an extended illness. Velma was born February 1, 1920 in Clark, South Dakota the daughter of Ben and Cora Guffey. Mrs. Howard, as a Navy wife for 20 years, lived in many places but in later life lived in Elliott, Iowa; Boulder City, Nevada; Mesa, Arizona; and Kimberling City, Missouri. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the O.N.O. club.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother: Elwin Guffey; and a son: Jerry Dean Howard.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years: John Donald Howard of Kimberling City, Missouri; daughter: Sandra Stephenson and her husband James of Reeds Spring, Missouri; 2 sons: John Howard and his wife Debbie of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Bill Howard and his wife Karla of Santa Monica, California; two granddaughters; five grandsons; one great granddaughter; 2 sisters-in-law: Berniece Guffey of Nodaway, Iowa; and Sally Howard of Clearfield, Utah; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside memorial services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott, Iowa with the Rev. Gordon Scott officiating.
