Larry D. Stalder, age 66, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 24, 2012 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Larry Dean Stalder was born April 19, 1946 in Creston, Iowa the son of John "Dale" and Frances (Martin) Stalder. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas and Adams County, Iowa near Nodaway, Iowa graduating from Villisca, Iowa High School in 1964. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and returned to Red Oak, Iowa in 1967. Larry was united in marriage to Ann Waples on July 30, 1977 in Walnut, Iowa. He worked for the Clarinda Correctional Hospital, Derby Gas Station, Union Carbide Battery Plant, Anderson Erickson Dairy, Denny Good Farming for 17 years, and retired from Red Oak Die Cast in 2009 after 21 years of service. Larry was a member of the Wesley R. Miller VFW Post #8998 in Villisca, Iowa, Ernie Johnson Post # 406 of the American Legion in Stanton, Iowa, Vietnam Chapter in Glenwood, Iowa, Mobile Riverine Force Association-Vietnam, was president of the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers, and was a caller for Nodaway Bingo. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, collecting trains, traveling, and was known by his children as being very loving and giving. He also enjoyed old tractors and military vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: Shawn Patrick Stalder on August 10, 1978. Survivors include his wife: Ann Stalder of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Shane Stalder of Omaha, Nebraska and Courtney Stalder and fiancÚ Kara Kaltenbach of Oelwein, Iowa; sister-in-law: Penny Meysenburg and husband Ben of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces: Abby and Holly Meysenburg of Des Moines, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 10 AM Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa with military honors. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family.
