Katherine Jane (Hoagland) Cowen was born July 8, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Albert Donald and Pearl Ethel (Carver) Hoagland. She passed away suddenly on Thursday evening, July 26, 2012 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 75 years and 18 days. Katherine grew up and attended school in Red Oak. On November 9, 1956 she was united in marriage to Donald James Cowen, Sr. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. This union was blessed with three children, Julie, Donald Jr. and Tracy. The couple farmed near Elliott for several years. They then moved to Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Omaha and then returned to Iowa in 1981. She had been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was an avid collector of angels. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved to go shopping for clothes and purses. Katherine also liked jewelry and roses. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in 1992; three sisters and eight brothers. Survivors include her children, Julie Cowen McCartney of Red Oak, Iowa, Donald Cowen, Jr. and his wife Vangie of Marcus, Iowa, Tracy Cowen and his wife Kim of Red Oak, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
