Betty M. Hill, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Betty Maxine Hill was born October 6, 1921 in Hancock, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Emma (Stevenson) Bates. When Betty was a young girl, the family moved to Elliott, Iowa where she graduated high school. Upon her graduation, Betty worked for the Red Oak Greenhouse. She was united in marriage to Lester Hill on February 1, 1945 in Stanton, Iowa. They farmed for many years and Betty also worked for Montgomery County National Bank and later Maxine’s Hallmark Store. They retired from farming and moved into Red Oak in 1974. Betty was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler, golfer, and Atlanta Braves fan. Betty received the distinction of being chosen for Volunteer of the Year for 8 consecutive years at Red Oak Rehab and Care Center and her family describes her as the most loving and unselfish person they know. Betty loved her family dearly and she loved to cook. She even remembered every family member’s favorite food, which she would make when they came to visit. Betty will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Lester Hill on June 24, 2010; brother: Donald Bates; and sisters: Geneva McConell and Helen Haupert. Survivors include her children: Gordon Hill and wife Becky of Red Oak, Iowa; Larry Hill and wife Peggy of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and Kelly Fort and husband Jeff of Stanton, Iowa; grandchildren: Charlotte Smith and husband Kenneth of Shenandoah, Iowa; Aaron Hill and wife Paula of Red Oak, Iowa; Drew Hill and wife Mel of Ankeny, Iowa; Jason Hill of Pine Top, Arizona; Sally Lalor and husband Gary of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Josh Harrington and wife Jen of Pella, Iowa; Amber Severin and husband Chad of Waukee, Iowa; Justin Fort and fiancé Regan Madison of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Jacob Fort and wife Whitney of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jenni Stock and husband Nick of Gravois Mills, Missouri; and Jordan Fort and special friend Maci Kinard of Stanton, Iowa; 20 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Elsie Bates of Griswold, Iowa and Marcella Jacobson of Red Oak, Iowa; brother-in-law: James Semler of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, May 3, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
