Mary “Anita” Smith, age 64, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Mary “Anita” Smith was born November 7, 1947 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was the daughter of Donald and Cleta Nissen. Anita graduated from the Villisca, Iowa High School with the class of 1966 and was later united in marriage to Floyd Smith. Anita lived most of her life in Red Oak, Iowa where she worked for Pamida, CDS, Vista Gardens Nursing Home, and at one time, the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Anita loved animals, gardening, cooking, baking, and watching Rodeos. Anita was preceded in death by her parents and her brother: Tom Clark. Survivors include her son: Michael J. “Jim” Smith and wife Jean of Lucedale, MS; daughter: Tammi Penton of Cumberland, IA; grandchildren: Jesse Waites of Boston, MA; Kristi Ostavitz and husband Joseph of Lucedale, MS; Dawn McCroru of Atlantic, Iowa; and Joe Wagner of Seattle, WA; nieces and nephews: Tammi Redd of Coburg, IA; Tony Clark and wife Jennifer of Stanton, IA; Robert Smith of Clarinda, IA; Amy McQueen of Clarinda, IA; and Julie Streitenberger of Blanchard, IA and many other relatives and friends. Graveside memorial services will be held 11 AM Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Brett White officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family.
