Gladys F. Bowen, age 78, of Imogene, Iowa, and her friend, Hazel M. Hinkle, age 87, of Emerson, Iowa passed away Friday, February 3, 2012 in a car accident in rural Montgomery County, Iowa. Gladys Frances Bowen was born December 11, 1933 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania the daughter of John Harry and Louise (Brandt) Trautman. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona when Gladys was twelve years old. She attended North Phoenix High School. After school, Gladys worked in several different jobs in the movie theater business, the telephone company, and also the banking business. She was united in marriage to Loyd Bowen on August 2, 1953 in Shamrock, Texas. They moved to Farmington, New Mexico where they built their first home and Gladys worked in the banking business. They moved to Henderson, Iowa in 1959 and to their current home in 1960. Over the years, Gladys had worked for Henry Field Company in Shenandoah, conducted vision testing for Kindergarten Roundup, and retired after 17 years from driving a school bus for Nishna Valley Schools. After retirement she worked part time for Warren Jewelry and Joslyn Clothing Store where she even had her own rack of clothes in the back room. Gladys attended Oaks Community Church, was a member of the Levi Burton American Legion Auxiliary, the Emerson Senior Citizens, and Christian Women. She enjoyed painting and spent many years enjoying her neighborhood bible study group.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant sister: Louise Trautman; and twin sister: Grace Trautman. Survivors include her husband: Loyd Bowen of Imogene, Iowa; children: Ron Bowen of Imogene, Iowa; Luann Hughbanks of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Carol Bowen of Malvern, Iowa; and Suzanne Lees and husband Paul of Walnut, Iowa; grandchildren: Brianne Marsh and husband Jody of Neola, Iowa; Bethany Reynolds and husband Jason of Vinton, Iowa; Brandon Hughbanks and wife Maria of Oakland, Iowa; and Erika, Blaine, and Ashley Lees all of Walnut, Iowa; great grandchildren: Madeleine, James, and Elizabeth Marsh and Camden Hughbanks; sister: Dorothy Hill and husband Wendell of Phoenix, Arizona; brothers-in-law: Floyd Bowen and wife Virginia of Hastings, Iowa and David Bowen and wife Virginia of Knox City, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service for Gladys Bowen and Hazel Hinkle will be held 10 AM Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Faith Community Church in Red Oak. Burial for Gladys and Hazel will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the families will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials for Gladys are suggested to the Oaks Community Church and memorials for Hazel are suggested to the American Heart Association.
