Verner “Dean” Isaacson, age 71, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Dean Isaacson was born February 9, 1940 in a snowdrift near Nyman, Iowa the son of Verner and Ellen (Swanson) Isaacson. Dean graduated from Essex Community High School in 1958 and attended Clarinda Community College. He married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Franks, in Shenandoah, Iowa on January 20, 1962. They farmed in the Nyman area until 1990 and Dean later retired from Eveready Battery Company after 28 years of service.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: James Isaacson; sister: Frances Nelson; and brother-in-law: Marty Franks. Survivors include his wife of 50 years: Beverly Isaacson of Red Oak, IA; children: Christopher Isaacson of Shenandoah, IA; Paula Fastenau and husband Jeff of Red Oak, IA; and Beth Hoeft and husband Brian of Stratford, SD; 7 grandchildren: Carmen Cox (Marcus Josephson); Meghan Cox; Chelsea Isaacson; Brandon Isaacson (Jenn); Ian Isaacson; Isaac Hoeft; and Sophia Hoeft; great granddaughter: Chloe Josephson; brother: Leland Isaacson and wife Linda of Murray, NE; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Don Nelson of Omaha, NE; Ron Franks (Mae); Dave Franks (Peg); Linda McGargill (Mike); and Kevin Franks (Tammy) all of Essex, IA; and Jolene Laumann (Dave) of Farragut, IA; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, January 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Tom Kunnel, TOR celebrant. There will be a private burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be held 5 PM Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Red oak Public Library or the Red Oak Fire and Rescue.
