Robert Shearer, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Robert Louis Shearer was born November 30, 1934 on the family farm in Montgomery County, Iowa near Grant. He graduated from the Griswold High School in 1953 and started farming. Robert was united in marriage to Jane Sheets on March 18, 1956 in Red Oak, Iowa. Robert and Jane farmed in Montgomery County until moving to Elliott in 1981. Robert also worked for the Stennett Elevator and after retirement from farming started working for the Farmers Mercantile retiring after 13 years. Robert and Jane moved to Red Oak in 2009. Robert was a longtime Elliott Masonic Lodge Member, was a former 4-H leader, and enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister: Helen Stallbaumer; brother: Stanley Shearer; grandson: Travis Shearer; and son: Richard Shearer. Survivors include his wife: Jane Shearer of Red Oak, IA; children: Robert Shearer, Jr. and wife Michelle of Emerson, IA; William Shearer, Russell Shearer, and Julia Daugherty all of Elliott, IA; Steve Shearer of Manson, IA; and Jeffrey Shearer of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Megan Shook of Indiana; Tyler Shearer of Omaha, NE; Krystal Shearer of Red Oak, IA; and David, Cassandra, Robert, and Catherine Daugherty all of Elliott, IA; great grandchild: Hailey Shook of Indiana; sister: Kathy Fisher and husband Robert of Fountain, FL; sisters-in-law: Helen Sheets of Brooklyn, IA and Judy Sheets of Des Moines, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mel Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Masonic services will be held 6 PM Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society.
